The ideas that I spout are tumultous and chaotic, and thus far-ranging in topic; it is here where I attempt to understand them.
The pirates for a system attacked even though I controlled their base.

It was a large map, with five galaxies, all players. I was currently facilitating the downfall of two empires in a star system connected to mine, and mine only. The first thing I did, of course, was set up a foothold, the pirate base. Two birds with one stone. Get rid of the annoying pirates, who would be going after my bounty-wearing head, and gain a defensible foothold. Unfortunately, no.

I had controlled the pirate base for ten minutes, colonized it, developed it, stationed ships and built defences, for I expected it to be a long, drawn out war. I had scout ships at the star at all times, and had recently explored the planets using those ships, in stead of the conquest. I invaded one side, and had captured one of their planets, and was moving on to the next, with a massive fleet. By the time I destroyed their colony on the ice planet, it said pirate raid imminent. I took no notice, because this had happened in my original system, where I had controlled the pirate base, and nothing had happened, to my knowledge. When I reached the enemy's capital, to deliver the killing blow, it said the pirate raid was launched, and within two minutes, it appeared at the first asteroid I took from the opposing faction.

This makes no sense, for I had controlled the pirate base for over fifteen minutes by that time at the least, had units stationed at the star and my captured planets, and had recently scouted. They literally appeared out of nowhere half-way through the phase-lane, despite the fact that I had researched advanced radar to detect incoming ships two jumps away. There was literally no way that the pirates could have built up their fleet like usual and launched a raid. I didn't even have the most bounty out of all the factions in that system anymore. The one who did was on the opposite side of the system. The pirates appeared out of nowhere, literally, with no plausible explanation for doing so, as well as targeting a stronghold I had built up, where there was little bounty to be found compared to others in the system.

Has anyone else experienced this?

That sounds like Insurgency, not a pirate attack. Once you take their base they are no more.

Hm, it possibly could be. I'll check the research levels of the other factions and then report back.

I checked how many credits the other factions had spent on research, and did some math. The highest one was below the level you'd need to get to the last tier. However, you wouldn't have to spend any credits, since Insurgency isn't linked to anything. I doubt any faction would refrain from doing so.

Also, all of the factions did not possess enough planets and asteroids to have enough logistical slots to research Insurgency. Taking into account the possibility of them devoting all slots to military research, they would have enough, but the intel I had gained was recent, and revealed that they did not invest fully in military research, but in trade ports, broadcast centres, and both types of research stations.

Because of that, I think that Insurgency is highly unlikely, although it is still possible.

Send us the save game and we can see if it's a bug. support@ironcladgames.com

I'll go find out where the save games are stored, but if I can't find it, where are they?

Edit: Can't find them. Where are the save files stored?
on Sep 16, 2007
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire
Vista: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\

if you then still cant find them, you will have to enable hidden folders to view them

Thanks, Multi. I've found it.

It says there's a SAVE File and a STATS File. Which should I send, or both?
on Sep 16, 2007
Ive been told the more the better
So zip them and send away.

Perfect, thanks.

Edit: I've compressed both the STATS file and the SAVE file, and sent them to the aforementioned address. I can only hope I didn't screw anything up, and hope you get the files to see if there is a bug.

Thanks Blair Fraser, and Multi.
